To understand drivers for sustainable carnivore survival outside protected areas we work on mitigation solutions with communities that experience hyena conflicts. Their negative reputation and responsibility for livestock losses make them subject to high levels of persecution. Extending settlements with loss of habitat and natural prey species are common threats that increase instances of human-hyena conflict.  The resolutions to human carnivore conflict is critical for the survival of both carnivores and people.
